Pittsburgh (KDKA)- With the signing of Arron Asham to contract worth $750,000, here is the Pens updated salary cap status.

The team has now spent $57.791 million on 19 players for the upcoming season.

This means that they have approximately $6.5 million left to spend on Tyler Kennedy, Jaromir Jagr, etc.

    Thanks for the update. It should also be noted that the Pens plan to stay more than $1 million under the cap going into the season. That kind of context is important, as fans may mistakenly feel the team has all $6.5 million to spend this week.

    They are actually keeping 1.5 mil for in-season cap room, so they only have 5mil left for Jagr, Kennedy, and Rupp. With 2mil going to Jagr and TK wanting to at least double his 775K salary were looking at hopefully getting Rupp to agree to a 1 mil max contract. I hope to see all these things happen and fall into place but until Jagr makes up his mind we are all stuck in limbo.

    I’m sorry but I don’t think Malkin is worth 8.7 million dollars, his performance the last few years has gone down, if he was anything like Sid then yes I think he would be worth that but right now no, I would lower that amount. Everyone else I agree with but not Malkin. Sorry! Lets Go Pens!!
