911 Call Played In McAnulty Trial

GREENSBURG (KDKA) - Prosecutors played a 911 tape in court today in which a Westmoreland County man admits having the gun used in a murder.

Richard McAnulty is accused of killing his wife's boyfriend Harry Mears after reading e-mails about their affair.

Prosecutors said after shooting Mears at his home in South Greensburg, McAnulty went home and called 911.

Dispatcher: Do you have any weapons on you at all?

Richard McAnulty: Yes, sir. There is the weapon that was used tonight. It's empty. The chamber's open, the cylinder's open, and it's laying here on the chair.

Dispatcher: OK.

Richard McAnulty: Do you want me to put it in the house? I can do that.

Forensic Pathologist Cyril Wecht testified Mears had been shot three times.

However, the fatal shot was the one that hit him in the back.
