New Details Emerge About Filming Of 'Batman' Movie

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Filming for the new "Batman" movie is slated to begin next month, but equipment and props have already begun to arrive in town.

Most notably, the Batmobile is being stored at the 31st Street Studios on the edge of the Strip District along with other vehicles from Gotham City.

"I think based on the size of our facility and the scope that we provide, we've done a lot as a base camp and a set up for the Warner Brothers' production. We've had car-carriers from Los Angeles and cargo container ships from London descend on our facility for the better part of the last month," 31st Street Studios CEO Chris Breakwell said.

In a letter obtained by KDKA-TV, business owners and residents have been notified about filming that will take place next month in downtown Pittsburgh.

Plans include pyrotechnics, precision driving and even snow, but a number of streets will be affected by the filming.

Movie representatives have already knocked on doors.

"They came in. They told us they wanted us to be closed for the day and that they wanted to pay one of the employees here to kind of stay in the store and get to go behind the scenes of everything Batman. It's pretty awesome," Anthony Barrick of Cartridge World said.

Smithfield Street, Oliver Avenue, Strawberry Way, Cherry Way and William Penn Way are just some of the streets that will be shut down beginning Aug. 10.

Bus routes will also have to be rerouted.

A winter scene will be shot in town that will require Oliver Avenue and Smithfield Street to be covered in snow.

"I think you'll see on the streets of Pittsburgh in the near future a lot of things that have come out of our facility," Breakwell said.

Filming is expected to take place from Aug. 10 through Aug. 20.
