CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — One man is dead following an overnight motorcycle crash in Washington County.

The accident happened just before midnight on Western Avenue, north of Paxton Road in Chartiers Township.

According to the Washington County Coroner’s Office, 38-year-old Mark Shaffer of Westland, Pa., died of blunt force trauma.

The Coroner’s Office reports that Shaffer was headed north on Western Avenue on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the accident happened. Officials say the vehicle traveled off the northbound lane after navigating a bend and hit a storm culvert.

Shaffer was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m. at the scene of the crash.

The Chartiers Township Police Department continues to investigate.
