“Idol” Hopeful Talks About His Experience So Far

PITTSBURGH (NEWSRADIO 1020 KDKA) — North Allegheny junior Mike Cefalo wants to be the next American Idol.

He’s braved early hours, traffic and standing in line for hours with thousands of other hopefuls for his chance at stardom.

“I’m very anxious to see if I’m going to move on forward with this,” said Cefalo as he stood in line Friday morning at Heinz Field.

KDKA AM’s Larry and John talked to him as he waited to enter Heinz Field and sing for his big break.

“It’s completely A cappella, no music and no microphones,” said Cefalo. “It’s not timed, but there’s a lot of people here, so we’re guessing that everyone’s going to be able to sing for about 15 to 30 seconds. If they like you, they’ll let you sing a little bit more.”

  1. George Raft says:

American Idol is a farce as once the winner is announced, after weeks and weeks of drawn out shows, they mostly disappear. How many are still around making money? Just another reality show.

    1. Kelly says:

It’s not just another reality show. I can’t stand reality TV, this is the only so called reality show I watch. I enjoy watching people sing, plain and simple. Some have disappeared, but some have become very successful. Just because some winners disappears, does not mean the show is a farce. Winning American Idol does not guarantee you will be a successful artist, it just gets you a record contract. You are not completing for guaranteed success….you are competing for a record deal…that is all..

umm kelly clarkson, carrie underwood, daughtry (although not a winner) jordin sparks, jennifer hudson, all came from american idol and all are award winning singers..

  3. George Raft is bitter. says:

George is upset his mother looks like Reuben Studdard with a weave.

  4. Anonymous says:

All of these so-called “reality” shows are rigged.

What’s really sad is, Fox Network can’t keep America’s Most Wanted on the air, for one hour a week. (Something that is actually beneficial).
Today’s kids just don’t have any concept of anything.

    1. Kelly Kiley says:

LOL Today’s kids? My husband and I are fans of the show. He is 42, and I am 34. Kids, we are not. You do realize that on American Idol, all Genre’s of music are explored, not just what is popular with “today’s kids”. I am not trying to convince you to like the show. Either you like it, or you don’t. Just don’t assume something about a particular demographic, when other demographics actually watch the show. There are lots of “todays kids” that have good taste in music, and TV. I can’t stand generalizations.
