Investigation Continues Into Butler Co. Couple's Deaths

BRADY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A team of forensics experts are combing the sprawling estate of a local couple whose remains were found earlier this week.

Police discovered the remains of Ken and Celeste Abbott Wednesday.

On Thursday, Ken Abbott's son, Colin, was charged with murdering his father and step mother and trying to cover it up.

Colin Abbott is currently in a New Jersey jail and there is no word on when he will be extradited to Pennsylvania.

When it happens, he'll face murder charges in the deaths of his father and step mother.

Tractors, search dogs and forensic investigators were back at the Abbott's 25-acre estate in Brady Township Friday.

"Today, basically still searching the area where the remains were found," PSP Trooper Ronald Kesten said.

Their charred remains were found scattered in a pond on the property.

No one had seen the couple in weeks and a rumor began to spread that they were killed in a car crash in New Jersey.

"We just hadn't seen them for a couple weeks and I thought, 'Well, maybe he's on vacation.' And then the word kind of started spreading around that there was a car accident," Michael Bencic said.

That rumor was reportedly started by Colin Abbot, who lived in Randolph, N.J.

"It's somewhat unbelievable. Ken and Celeste were just good people. It's like any of us, you just can't imagine anyone being treated that way," Bencic said.

State Police are continuing to search for more clues at the scene and are awaiting Colin Abbott's extradition.

They have also sealed off the property until the investigation is complete.
