Project To Make Road Safer In North Park

MCCANDLESS (KDKA) -- A construction zone in North Park is getting bigger.

The work is happening on Babcock Boulevard between East Ingomar and Pearce Mill Roads.

Traffic is now reduced to a single lane in each direction.

The work will last four to six months.

The $500,000 project will make this stretch of Babcock Boulevard easier on pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.

Zach Petronic said he was once hit by a car while riding his bike in the park. The plan to widen the path sounds great to him.

"If you're a cyclist, you're coming out and you have to come out to the stop sign and you have to merge with traffic, but now you can have your own lane," he said.

The project, funded by state grant money, will build a wider sidewalk on the side of the road that runs along North Park Lake.

There will also be a strip of grass to separate the bike lane from the road.
