Cornerback Commits To Pitt

By: Mike Vukovcan

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Pitt Panthers have received a verbal commitment from a cornerback from the state of Maryland.

Pomfret (Md.) McDonough cornerback Marchez Coates gave the Panthers a verbal commitment last night.

Coates, 5’11” 172, earned an offer from Pitt after working out at the Panthers’ prospect camp in June.

Coates is rated as a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com but hasn’t received much attention. Aside from Pitt, the only other schools to offer him were Eastern Michigan and Robert Morris.

Coates is the third defensive back to commit to the Panthers for this recruiting class.

Coates is also Graham’s first recruit from the state of Maryland.

Here’s the breakdown of their 11 commitments according to states:
Pennsylvania: 5 (Williams, Park, Geter, Coles, Conwell)
Ohio: 4 (Cook, Davis, Davis, Hilliard)
Maryland: 1 (Coates)
Tennessee: 1 (Voytik)

No disrespect to Robert Morris……..If this HIGH OCTANE business Pitt is selling is competing with Bobby Mo and EMU, Pitt should just get the Pirate Marketing Department hired immediately to start selling Bobbleheads, Fireworks, Barbara Streisand, etc. to do entertainment. I won’t be going to games if they are recruiting this caliber for a Division 1 program.
