State Police: Dog Theft No Longer Under Investigation

NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State police say they are no longer investigating what appeared to be a dog-napping caught on tape in Fayette County.

That's because it was apparently a hoax.

According to police, the incident happened about 8:30 p.m. on July 26 on Rolling Hills Estates Road in North Union Township.

Police say a man and a second person stole the dog named Creed and drove off in a blue SUV headed westbound on Rolling Hills Estates Road.

Cameras were set up on the property and the incident was recorded. State police even released pictures from the footage.

But late Monday afternoon, State police sent out an updated press release saying, "Based on information received on 08/08/11, investigation is being unfounded as a criminal incident at this time."

No other details about the incident were released.
