Burress To Undergo MRI On Ankle

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Steelers were interested in both Plaxico Burress and Jerricho Cotchery, ultimately signing Cotchery yesterday.

Considering the continuing health problems of Burress, maybe that's going to turn out to be a good move by the Steelers.

It was announced today that Burress will undergo an MRI on his left ankle and won't be allowed to practice until Wednesday.

Burress, who turned 34 today, will obviously miss the Jets preseason opener Monday vs. the Houston Texans.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan said, "We're trying to get Plaxico at 100 percent. On Wednesday, we'll assume he'll be 100 percent if we back him off completely now."

Ryan confirmed that Santonio Holmes and Derrick Mason will be the starting receivers on Monday night.
