Pirates Release Joe Beimel
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Joe Beimel's return to the Pittsburgh Pirates has come to an end.
Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports is reporting that the Pirates have released the left-hander.
Last week, the team designated Beimel for assignment in order to clear a roster spot for RHP Ross Ohlendorf.
The former Duquesne graduate signed with the Pirates over the winter but struggled or was injured the entire season.
The 34-year old had a 5.33 ERA and allowed 34 hits in 25.1 innings pitched this season.
Morosi speculates that contending teams such as the NY Yankees or Philadelphia Phillies might have some interest in signing Beimel.
