Zambelli To ‘Light The River’ After Pitt-Buffalo Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Zambelli is famous for its fireworks, but this weekend they’re adding something different to the mix.

The company plans to “Light The River” after Pitt’s game against Buffalo at Heinz Field.

“We have not found another event this size that’s ever been done,” Doug Taylor, Zambelli’s chief executive officer, said.

Organizers plan to not only light the sky with fireworks, but turn the Allegheny River into a fire show.

“We’re going to have flames that vary from a few feet high to in excess of 100-feet high,” Taylor said. “And if you’re standing over on the shore over there, you’ll be able to feel the heat.”

And if a city with a river catching fire sounds familiar, don’t worry, this is different.

“We’re not poking fun at Cleveland, are we?” Jim Lokay asked.

“We’re not going to talk about that one,” Taylor joked. “We meant to do it, you know, they didn’t.”

Who pays for these fireworks and flames? The city? A generous gift from a large corporation? Pass out gift certificates to a grocery store, that would make more sense. Save the show for the fourth of July.

  2. PicaU says:

Peoples Gas is sponsoring this as a gift to kick off the Pitt season. Too bad KDKA doesn’t see fit to include that tidbit. Sponsors are only mentioned when its sponsored by a CBS affiliate or the Steelers

I know if I was running a natural gas company, the first thing I would want people to think of when they thought of my business is a river of fire. Who approves these things?

    1. kathryn klaber says:

Natural gas is doing everything they can to pollute our rivers. You should be proud. It’s not easy to systematically poison everyone in the state for some profit. Now shut up and watch our rivers explode.

      1. Mayor of GBD says:

KK, how can a gas pollute a liquid? PLEASE, show SOME intelligence. If you are refering to drillers and producers use of fracking take note…PNG is a Local Distribution Company and has nothing to do with exploration and drilling. So, unless you know the facts – Shut the hell up!

Pica, and why do you think they had Morgan O’Brian on? Isn’t he the President and CEO of Peoples Gas? duh

      2. Karen says:

I agree with you. Perhaps my humor was not clear. I was being sarcastic. I am obviously, in fact, not a natural gas company, and if I was, I would obviously not want people to associate my product with a river of fire.
