Vandals Target Westmoreland Co. Community Pool

YOUNGWOOD (KDKA) – Pennsylvania State Police are investigating vandalism at the Park & Pool in Youngwood, Westmoreland County.

It happened sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Park benches and cement blocks were hurled into the deep end of the pool, while wooden picnic tables litter the shallow end.

A wheelbarrow and a construction cone were also thrown in the pool.

Garbage cans cap the diving boards and the vandals even broke a valve between the diving boards. As a result, fresh water gushed back into the partially drained pool.

The pool is run entirely by volunteers and has been for the last 50 years. The community celebrated that milestone this summer.

The volunteers will now have to clean up the damage done by the vandals.

Pool officials don't have an estimate on the damage just yet and said the price tag may not be known until next summer when the pool prepares to open for the season.

They are concerned that cement blocks thrown into the deep end may have caused damage to the bottom of the pool.

If you have any information about who may have done this, contact State Police in Greensburg.
