Man Arrested After Wild Police Chase

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) -- A traffic stop in Westmoreland County prompted a wild police chase.

Police saw an SUV going the wrong way on a one-way street in New Kensington Friday evening. After trying to pull the driver over, they started chasing the vehicle.

The chase ended in Deer Lakes Park in Allegheny County – about eight miles away.

The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle going around a curve on Mahaffey Road. He then ran into the woods. Police dogs picked up his scent and he was arrested.

A passenger in vehicle was taken into custody. No one was hurt.

At least two police cars were damaged when hit by speeding SUV.

An eyewitness, Michelle Libby, estimates 12 to 15 police cars were in pursuit when she saw it.

At least six police departments were involved. Because the chase started in Westmoreland County, detectives there will handle the investigation.

It's not known if the car was stolen.
