EAST MCKEESPORT (KDKA) — Thirty people had to be evacuated after a fire started in an apartment building in East McKeesport.
The fire broke out in the 1100-block of Broadway Avenue near Route 30.
Ten of the people evacuated had to be assisted by firefighters.
The fire chief calls the building “high risk” because while it is not a predominately elderly building, there are a number of senior citizens who live there.
One person was treated by paramedics, but not taken to the hospital.
A cat named Ralph was also rescued.
“We gave Ralph oxygen by mask,” Dave Sherman said. “He wasn’t breathing real well, he wasn’t very [responsive] and with the oxygen treatment he’s been doing much better.”
The fire was contained to one apartment.
