DETROIT (KDKA/AP) – The Pittsburgh Penguins wrapped up their preseason Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Penguins were looking to go 6-0, but Gustav Nyquist’s two goals powered the Red Wings to a 3-2 victory.

Johan Franzen added a goal and two assists, Todd Bertuzzi also had two assists, and Jimmy Howard made 25 saves for Detroit (4-3-1).

Paul Martin and Tyler Kennedy scored and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 15 shots for the Penguins (5-1).

Detroit forward Patrick Eaves sustained an undisclosed lower body injury and didn’t return after he appeared to block Steve Sullivan’s shot with his right knee in the first period.

The Penguins will open up the regular season on the road against the Vancouver Canucks Thursday night at 10 p.m.
