Route 28 Reopens After Crash

ASPINWALL (KDKA) – An accident on Route 28 caused major traffic delays during the Monday morning commute.

According to emergency dispatchers, the accident happened on the southbound side of the road shortly before 8 a.m.

Witnesses said the driver of a dump truck could not stop in time as cars slowed to allow traffic to merge from the Aspinwall onramp.

The dump truck ran into the back of a car with a mother and her young daughter inside.

“The car that got hit was swallowed up from basically the rear bumper to the back seat. [It] was basically sucked up underneath the truck,” Scott Hemeon said.

After hitting the car, the dump truck driver ran to the ran to check on the occupants.

Witnesses said the girl had serious injuries and that three or four cars may have been involved.

Several other people were taken to the hospital as well, but there is no word on any of their conditions at this time.

The road was closed for about four hours as crews conducted their investigations, but it has since reopened.

Explaint t me why someone has to be stuck in that traffic for going on three hours. My nephew is a mile or so from that accident and right past the fox chapel exit. Why cant the police stop traffic from entering at RIDC, exit those that have entered the hwy before RIDC and have them exit there and then turn the cars around that are stuck behind the accident. It is totally ridiculous to be sitting in the traffic that long.

I’ll just echo what everyone else has said…Wendy, would you rather have been inconvenienced by some traffic or be in the hospital from an accident? Put into prospective…

Other news outlets are reporting that a small child was critically injured. And what, at best, you were late for something? C’mon.

Some people are ignorant to life. Things happen and sometimes horrible things happen. So Wendy, maybe you should be happy your nephew is stuck in traffic and doesn’t have the truck on top of him.

    Spot on Kaylee, Spot on.

  4. Lisa says:

Totally agree Kaylee. I drove past this wreck going northbound this morning. It is horrible. Be happy he’s only stuck in traffic.

  5. Dominic Tiberio says:

I was about 20-25 or so cars back from it and it seems like a pretty tragic wreck. I really feel for those involved. I wish people would stop being so self-important and selfish and stop using the other lanes at these splits to “get ahead” and then jam up traffic and cause these types of wrecks trying to merge back into the lane closer to their exit. For what? To bypass a few cars and still sit in the same traffic? Even *during* this people still tried driving up the berm and blocking responders. Way to go.
