PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A funeral service was held today for the 17-year-old Knoch High School student who died in a crash in Butler County earlier this week.

Alexis Summers was a cheerleader and a well-liked student. Mallory Bateman, Summers’ best friend, said she was dating one of the school’s football players.

Police say Summers was driving home from her boyfriend’s house Tuesday night when she crashed into a tree in Jefferson Township.

Officials say she may have been texting while driving, but family and friends deny the allegation.

The school is set to hold a special memorial for Summers this evening before their football game.
