Franco Harris, Meadows Casino Sever Ties

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Meadows Casino and Franco Harris are putting their business partnership on hold for the time being.

Harris will not be doing any more endorsements after comments he made after Penn State fired head coach Joe Paterno.

“But for you to connect him with this and put blame on him really disturbs me and like I said, he did his job, people higher than him, you know, if it went all the way up to the president that’s stuff that they should do, that they should take care of,” Harris said on Sunday.

Sources told KDKA that Meadows operators are upset over those comments and have worked out a deal for the two sides to sever ties.

In a statement released Tuesday, the casino said:

“In light of the recent developments with Franco Harris regarding Joe Paterno’s dismissal, Franco and The Meadows have mutually decided to put their business relationship on hold at this time, while these matters are looked into further.”

Harris and Rocky Bleier had recently appeared in a series of casino commercials together.

this is the reason why people don’t want to speak up or get involved with anything….when they do someone or something else is on hold….where is the freedom of speech here…….guess it is not in the usa

    1. Steve says:

Are you that thick? His freedom of speech isn’t being compromised. His views are simply not in line with the Meadows. As such their partnership has been dissolved.

    2. LeRoy says:

I concur, I believe Franco has done the right thing (standing up for Coach Paterno), and just like everyone else, he’s being reprimanded for just speaking the truth. I don’t have the influence nor personal knowlege about Joe Pop, but what they did to him and what is still going on is just character assaination. I have to congratulate Franco for his stand in this and I would do the same. This is a great man that is being disected from his life in sports and the evolvement of many people he has help growing up. I guess people in powers to be have no resolve to stand up and do the right thing, instead the ruin a man’s legacy because they want to look good. Trustees should be terminated for lack of backbone, state officials should be replaced for statements like he should of done more. In courts of law hearsay effidence is not allowed, yet we can ruin lives on their standards. Put Joe back.

      1. Anthony Moore says:

How much could you possibly really care about Penn State football? If you were even a little bit of a fan, you would know that his nickname is JoePa, not “Joe Pop”. Quit commenting on things you have no interest in or knowledge of. And for the record, I am not defending Paterno. I found his lack of action reprehensible. And Franco should mind his own business. If he fired somebody, what right would I or anyone else have to demand that the person be rehired?

      2. LeRoy says:

Could care less about your reprehensible feelings, that’s all they are. Your ignorance is reflective upon your statement about ones interest or knowledge. To conjure up a an attitude towards anothers interest in, doing what is right or wrong is complimentary on a back stabbing society. Allow facts to come clear before condeming others. One last item, it is a joy to be around intelligent people, willing to talk and listen, ignorance on the other hand is something one is born with. Get the point?

    3. go franco says:

Franco is a great humanitarian. the meadows is a greedy corp. their loss and i hope they keep losing

    4. Mayor Stupidstal says:

Exactly Debbie! Whats wrong with molesting a hundred little boys these days? People are getting killed in the streets..right..the police should let child molesters have a free pass and stop murders…wait…… if the police do that then they just target blacks and they are racist…..whats to do ???? glad i’m not the police you cant touch anybody anymore without someone griping about it !!!

  2. rich says:

I always found it troubling that he would be endorsing gambling while at the same time asking for donations to help people pay for their energy bills.

  3. Miss Lovely says:

there is so much of this abuse still hidden in every home, court, yet noone wants to come forward and then it becomes a circle of abuse that never quits, yes it is very gard for the abused to come forward but they need help however the damage is always there, I know first hand as it happened in my family

  4. Deno says:

Bring in Louis Lipps, he never fails to show up without his Steelers jersey on

  5. I’m surprised the LIHEAP people haven’t stepped in and done the same.

  6. dansuxs says:

These were terrible acts done by a monster, no excuses.

I admire Franco for his loyalty to Joe Paterno and his alma mater.

  7. Cracked Up says:

How about promoting a crack house next, Franco

  8. joanna says:

The Meadows just hanged themselves. I hope all their gambler clientele sever ties with them.

    1. Dave says:

Are you nuts? No one goes to the Meadows because Franco sponsors it. What rock did you just crawl out from under? They go because they enjoy gambling, and Franco sponsoring or not sponsoring the Meadows will certainly not curtail people from enjoying themselves.

    2. Paul says:

The Meadows doesn’t want to surround itself with someone who supports an organization that would conceal a horrendous crime involving children. They don’t want Franco’s views being associated with their establishment. I commend the Meadows for standing up for the VICTIMS!!!!

  9. Media Frenzy says:

Maybe Franco would not have mentioned his support for Paterno if some idiot reporter didn’t stick a mic in his face and ask him

  10. B says:

rivers casino here is come, and it’s a closer drive for me, i am done with the meadows.

    1. Dave says:

Wow – you are sad. You remind me of a sheep following the herd. Would you also have partaken of the drink at Jim Jone’s compound? Learn how to think for yourself!

      1. Joanna says:

Wow Dave. You are not a sheep. You are an ass. Is your last name Jones? The Meadows are a joke. There are other casinos in the area to patronize.

  11. Dave says:

Joanna – you are showing your true colors. You are exactly the same as the rest of the followers. You place hypocrisy over that of human life. I’m sure the Meadows won’t miss you or R. Have a good time!

    1. James Nescot says:

We may have freedom of speech in the USA, but one often one must be willing to sacrifice in order to exercise this basic right!! I wonder if Franco would have been fired for stating his opinion if he would have been a member of a union! Many people disagree with some of the actions of various unions, but this is a good example of the protection an employee might receive from being a union member.

  12. matt t says:

    how did you do that?

  13. dansuxs says:

    The ball hit the turf

  14. A.Bunker says:

    Franco, what a clown.

  15. Christine Liberty says:

APPARENTLY WE DON’T HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH! THIS COUNTRY IS GETTING ANYMORE WE CAN’T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT BE PUNISHED. I BELIEVE JOE DID THE SAME THING THAT THIS SO CALLED MIKE MCQUEARY DID. LOOK WHO GOT FIRED AND LOOK WHO’S ON ADMIN. LEAVE. AND IT WOULDN’T SURPRISE ME NONE THAT HE’LL BE STANDING ON THE SIDE LINES SOON. IF YOU GOING TO FIRE ONE THEN FIRE THE OTHER. FRANCO’S NO CLOWN.HAVE YA LOOKED AT YOUR SELF IN THE MIRROR LATELY.
