Teenager Found After McCandless Crash

MCCANDLESS (KDKA) -- A massive search has ended for a 16-year-old girl after a single-vehicle accident in North Park.

Six people, all under age 21, were in a car on North Ridge Road when it careened, hit a tree and flipped on its side at about 7 p.m.

The driver and the 16-year-old girl were able to get out of the car, but four others were trapped in the wreckage.

Initially, emergency crews thought the 16-year-old became disoriented and wandered away from the crash, sparking a search involving 80 volunteer firefighters, six ATVs, a state police helicopter and thermal imaging equipment.

Crews later learned the driver told the 16-year-old to go look for help. A paramedic spotted the girl about two miles away from the crash scene at a skating rink.

The four others had to be rescued. The victims suffered broken bones.
