Police Seek Suspect In Alleged Sexual Assault In Ross Township

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police in Ross Township are searching for a suspect following the alleged sexual assault of a woman this morning at an apartment complex.

Investigators say it happened just after 9:30 a.m. at the Woodhawk Club Apartment complex on Johanna Drive as the victim was outside of her apartment.

According to Ross Township police, a man approached the woman and forced her back into her apartment.

"He displayed a handgun and sexually assaulted her," said Sgt. Benjamin Dripps, of the Ross Township Police Department. "We had information at the time that he may have fled into a wooded area adjacent to the property and possibly into neighborhoods surrounding that area."

Police said they are pursuing multiple leads and collected evidence at the apartment complex.

Authorities describe the suspect as an African American male in his mid-40s who was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with a zipper, dark-blue jeans and either a ski mask or knit cap.

Police say they did a door-to-door search of the apartment building and had a K9 search the area outside of the building.

State police along with a helicopter were called in to help search a nearby wooded area; however, police say the reports that the suspect may still have been in the area later turned out to be false.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of some injuries.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to call the Ross Township Police Department at 412-931-9070.
