Pittsburghers Dealing With Fierce Winds As Winter Returns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The winds are really whipping out there today as winter has once again returned to the Pittsburgh area. Now, local residents are trying to deal with the bitter cold temperatures.

This winter weather event didn't turn out as expected, but one thing sure did deliver - the wind.

All in all, there was not much snow; but step outside, and you walked into what felt like a Siberian cyclone. Thirty-plus mile per hour wind blasts ripped through the region.

The epicenter of the excruciatingly cold winds may well have been the Clemente Bridge, and crossing it this morning varied in strategy.

Some used a bicycle to beat the breeze, while others hoped their legs would move them like the wind.

"I'm about to run across this as a matter of fact," said one person.

With the wind-borne white caps on the Allegheny River, a tossle cap of any color on the head made the treacherous crossing bearable.

Experts say the best thing you can do if you have to be out in this kind of extreme cold is cover any and all exposed flesh.
