PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — There’s a big honor in the works for Mario Lemieux.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that a statue honoring the career and achievements the hockey legend and Hall-of-Famer will be unveiled on March 7.

The statue, called “Le Magnifique,” will be located in the plaza just outside of the Trib Total Media Gate to the CONSOL Energy Center.

According to the Penguins, the statue was created by bronze sculptor Bruce Wolfe. Also, James Frederick, of James Gallery in the Pittsburgh’s West End Village, served as a consultant.

In a press release from the team, Penguins CEO and President David Morehouse said the “statue will be an everlasting tribute” to Lemieux’s legacy.

The unveiling ceremony will be held at 12 p.m. on March 7 and is open to the public. Later that night, the Penguins will host the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:30 p.m.
