Car Flips In Ross Twp. Crash, Alcohol Found Inside

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Police are investigating after alcohol was found inside a car that flipped onto its roof with a baby inside.

According to police, a woman crashed in Ross Township on Nelson Run Road near Peebles Tuesday.

"We're very fortunate that no other vehicles were involved," Ross Township Police Sgt. Ben Dripps said. "This is a heavily-traveled road. It's often used mainly during the rush hours for people to avoid McKnight Road and from the description of where the vehicle went and ended up, we're very fortunate it didn't cross over into another lane, strike an oncoming car."

Police found alcohol inside the car and suspect she was driving under the influence.

The driver and the baby were taken to West Penn-AGH. The mother was treated and released. CYF was called in because of the circumstances surrounding the crash.

"We make hundreds of arrests for driving under the influence in Ross Township," Sgt. Dripps said. "It's very infrequent that those arrests come at 7:30 in the morning on a Tuesday, especially considering you're talking about a mother and an infant child."

No charges have been filed at this time. They are waiting for the results of blood alcohol tests on the driver.
