MADISON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that left an 83-year-old woman dead.

Rolla Walter died in her home which sits off of Route 861 outside of Rimersburg, Clarion County.

Trooper Jason Scholl said the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

It began around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Walter lived with her son, but he was away at work when the fire started, according to police.

Someone driving by saw smoke and called for help.

First Assistant Fire Chief Jim Foringer from the Rimersburg Volunteer Fire Department says once they learned someone was unaccounted for, firefighters went into a search mode.

State police say Ms. Walter’s body was found on the dining room floor.
