PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Hundreds turned out to say goodbye to a victim of the Western Psych shooting last week.

Michael Schaab, 25, was laid to rest after an emotional service at St. John Baptist de la Salle Church in Delmont.

Joe and Amanda Giacobbi were long-time friends who also played on Schaab’s softball team.

“Michael loved Christmas,” Amanda told KDKA’s Kym Gable. “You know that time of year between Thanksgiving and Christmas that you hold the door a little longer, smile a little brighter. Michael was that way all the time.”

Joe Giacobbi added, “To not get those phone calls, to not have him cheer you up when you’re in a bad mood, words can’t describe how I feel today.”

Several co-workers came to the church in a large UPMC van.

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Public Safety Director Michael Huss were also in attendance.
