Judge Chides Defense In Case Against Pittsburgh Police Officer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A judge was ready to throw the book at a former city police officer and his lawyers for holding a news conference while under house arrest.

However, the testimony of a probation officer may have kept a number of people out of jail today.

The result of today's hearing is that Adam Skweres will not be going back to jail.

Skweres is charged with offering legal help to women in exchange for sexual favors.

On Wednesday, he walked into the Allegheny County Courthouse with his two lawyers, but nobody was sure which way all three would have to leave the building.

Skweres was released from jail last month after evaluations from the Behavior Clinic and was placed under house arrest.

Earlier this week, he and his lawyers had media availabilities while he was under house arrest in an apparent attempt to clean up his image.

Visits to the lawyer's office were permitted. However, a news conference in his attorney's office is "close to crossing a thin line," according to the judge.

A probation officer testified that he was told interviews were involved and no specific order prohibited it, which made the judge hold back on contempt proceedings.

Skweres will now have to have visits at his own house now.

During the hearing, the judge told Skweres that he was, "A pawn in his attorney's voracious and insatiable appetite for media attention."
