Canonsburg Lake Drowning Victim Beloved By Many

CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- About 100 friends and relatives stood on the bank of Canonsburg Lake for a candlelight vigil honoring a 21-year-old who drowned there over the weekend.

Joey Schneider went swimming Friday night after a party with friends. Divers recovered Schnieder's body after nearly 12 hours of searching Saturday.

Monday night, loved ones released balloons and lit candles in memory of the Waynesburg University student.

Friends say Schneider often did "extreme" things like the late-night swim.

"Anytime you needed him, he'd be there," Lisa Frank, Schneider's sister, said. "Fun – funny kid. Make you laugh even if you didn't want to."

"Joey was so well-loved," Chantal Brannon, the victim's cousin, said. "Everybody loved him. It's so hard."

Friends say he lived his life to the fullest every day.
