Severe Storms Bring Heavy Rain, High Winds & Lightning

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Some severe weather continues to move through the area today.

Strong storms are affecting the Pittsburgh area this morning and will extend on an occasional basis into the early afternoon.

KDKA meteorologist Dennis Bowman says these storms contain very gusty winds, lots of cloud to ground lightning and extremely heavy rain.

The forward speed of the storms at 65 miles per hour brings them through neighborhoods very quickly, but adds to the danger of them.

Bowman says the storm activity is expected to settle down this afternoon with the passage of a cold front. Very breezy conditions will continue into the evening.

Today's high will be near 70 with a low tonight of 42 under partly cloudy skies.

During severe thunderstorms, it is always a good idea to stay away from windows and remain in an interior room on the lowest floor. Put off travel until the storms affecting your area moves through.
