Police Identify Man In Attempted Church Burglary

IRWIN (KDKA) — Police have identified a man who was caught on tape trying to steal money from a church in Westmoreland County.

According to police, Jeremy Ray Minnick, 26, attempted to steal money from a donation box at the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin on April 20.

"The first day he comes in he starts to inspect where the donation box where you would donate money to light a candle for St. Joseph and prayers," Irwin Police Chief Joseph Pocsatko said.

Minnick returned the next day wearing a coat, hat and was determined to steal money from the donation box.

This time, he discovered he was on camera, but still went through a closet and found a tool. He left after several minutes of trying to break open the donation box.

The donation box is emptied daily and normally holds about $20 to $30.

Minnick is expected to be charged with attempted theft and criminal trespass.

Anyone with information about Minnick's whereabouts is asked to call police.
