1 Dead, 1 Injured In Larimer Shooting

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – Police are investigating after one man was killed and another was injured in a shooting at a club in Larimer early Sunday morning.

According to police, the shooting happened at the Trappers Club in the 6500-block of Hamilton Avenue around 3 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found Donte Hawkins, 20, of Verona, lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hawkins had just finished his sophomore year at Clarion University, and was a 2010 graduate of Penn Hill High School.

Inside the club, officers found another male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

For the Hawkins family, the sudden death of the college student has left them devastated and with too many unanswered questions.

"My son will never come home and say, 'Mom, I'm home from college;' 'call me, Mom;' 'I love you.' I'll never get those texts again," said Monica Hawkins, the victim's mother. "And how do I stop texting him or calling him. It's painful."

The family also says they would like the District Attorney's Office to look at the club. They say there has been violence there before.

"I ask for Steve, the mayor, and the chief of police to look at this incident and come down here and shut this club down," added Wynona Hawkins Harper, the victim's aunt.

No arrests have been made and no other details have been released at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Homicide Squad at (412) 323-7161.
