CENTER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — State police are searching for a suspect in an attempted robbery at a bank branch in a Butler County mall.

Authorities say it happened just after 9 p.m. Friday at the PNC Bank in the Clearview Mall in Center Township.

According to state police, the 23-year-old victim was trying to make a deposit at the bank’s night deposit window when she was approached from behind by someone who tried to grab the money bag she was carrying.

Investigators say during a struggle over the bag, the suspect is accused of punching the woman in the face.

The suspect then fled the scene and headed south on Route 8. He didn’t get away with any money.

State police describe the suspect as a white male in his late teens or early 20s. He was about six-feet tall with a thin build.

He was last seen wearing dark shorts, a gray tee-shirt that was darker at the shoulders, dark tennis shoes and a dark drawstring backpack.
