IUP Alum Killed In Combat Remembered

INDIANA, Pa. (KDKA) – Memorial Day brings back memories of friends and family who gave their lives for their country.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is no exception.

Theta Chi fraternity members of decades past returned to campus to honor a member of their brotherhood.

James Flannery married his college sweetheart before he was deployed to Vietnam. He never returned.

They also remembered IUP grad Robert Young, who died in captivity in Cambodia.

Both have been honored with memorial portraits at the ROTC building on campus.

Artist Bob Clark was Flannery's Theta Chi "little brother."

"You meet people who set a high water mark and with Jim it was just confident, he was a natural leader and he was just a great guy," he recalled.

The memorial tribute was spearheaded by fellow fraternity member and IUP grad Carl Amenhauser.
