Car Goes Into Creek In Westmoreland Co.

UNITY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- One person is dead after a pickup truck apparently lost control.

Edward Stoecker, Jr., 73, of Rector, Westmoreland County, died after the pickup truck he was driving went off Route 30 in Unity Township and went over a steep embankment, and landed partially in a creek.

State Police said it appeared that Stoecker may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident, based on interviews with witnesses who saw him driving eastbound on the divided highway moments before the wreck.

Ron Sistek, of Ligonier, was driving behind Stoecker and hesaid Stoecker was weaving and hit the guard rail several times, before careening over the embankment.

Sistek and another man tried to give Stoecker CPR in his truck before paramedics arrived, but, Sistek said he was unresponsive.
