Former NHL Goalie Talks Backups, Cup Finals

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Former NHL goalie, and current broadcaster for the New Jersey Devils on MSG  Network, Chico Resch joined the Fan Morning Show on Tuesday.

The Penguins traded a seventh-round pick for the rights to negotiate with Tomas Vokoun from the Washington Capitals. Shortly afterwards, Vokoun signed a two-year, $4 million contract to back up Marc-Andre Fleury.

Chico tells the Morning Show that he was initially surprised by the move. But, after thinking about it, the signing works well for both sides. Vokoun gets a few years of work with a good pay check, and the Penguins get a solid backup who can push Fleury to be a better goaltender. If Fleury struggles the way he did in the first round this season against the Flyers, the Penguins will have someone to fall back on.

Chico also tells us what is going wrong with the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals. They wake up this morning finding themselves down 3-0 in the series against the Los Angeles Kings, and on the brink of being eliminated.
