Close Call For Franklin Park Toddler

FRANKLIN PARK (KDKA) -- A 16-month-old boy is in fair condition at Children's Hospital after a close call at his home in Franklin Park.

Police say the boy and his mom were on the back deck where there was a toy bucket that had some water in it.

The mother brought the boy inside, while she ran upstairs to get his twin sister who had just awoken from a nap, according to police.

Franklin Park Police Chief Don Dorsch says while the mom was upstairs, the boy went back outside to the bucket and fell "head-over-heels" inside.

He was reportedly not breathing when the mom discovered him and pulled out. But Chief Dorsch says once the boy was out of the water, he began coughing and breathing again.

The chief says no charges will be filed, since there's no indication the mom was negligent.

She told officers she was gone for less than two minutes, according to police.

The father was also home at the time.

Chief Dorsch says this is another example of why parents must remain "vigilant all the time."
