Dry Conditions Prompt Burning Bans In Beaver Co.

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- We're not under a drought warning or watch, but all you have to do is look at people's yards to know it's dry.

Green grass is hard to find these days unless you've been watering your lawn.

In Beaver County, there were two brush fires on Monday. A fire in Center Township jumped to a barn and destroyed it.

A fire in Independence Township scorched five acres and kept fire fighters busy for hours.

The Beaver County Times reports that burning bans have been enacted in Pulaski Township, Big Beaver, Brighton Township and Industry.

Chief Mark New of the Independence Township Volunteer Fire Department tells KDKA-TV that he will ask township commissioners to ban burning there as well.

No word on what started Monday's brush fires.
