Police Investigate Attempted Carjacking In Ross Twp.

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Ross Township police are investigating a report of a carjacking attempt in the parking lot a local shopping center.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday in front of Burlington Coat Factory in the North Hills Shopping Center.

Police say a woman told them that a black male grabbed her from behind while she was putting her child in her car and told her he wanted her car.

"And when she came to her car, she did see a male out of the corner of her eye," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp, of Ross Township Police. "She approached her car, she put her child into the backseat. The male then came up and grabbed her and said that he wanted her car."

The woman said she screamed and told the suspect that her baby was in the car.

Ross Township police say the suspect wouldn't let the woman go and hit her in the face.

"She had previously started her vehicle with a remote start prior to getting to it because of the hot day and to get her air conditioning running," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp, of Ross Township Police. "She screamed, and she believed she was struck in the face with something, and then the male took off running."

The suspect is believed to be six-feet tall and in his mid-20s. He also had on a red hoodie with the words "ECKO RED" on it.
