MLB Network's Mitch Williams On Potentially Dealing Lincoln: "It's Very Dangerous"

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Former pitcher and current MLB Network analyst Mitch Williams joined The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to talk about the Pirates' recent play and the upcoming July 31st trade deadline.

Williams said that recent Pirates acquisition Wandy Rodriguez might amp his already-well-rounded game up now that Rodriguez is playing for a team that's in the thick of things.

"I'm sure Wandy is going to be excited," said Williams. "He's going to be amped up to be on a team that's in the race."

He actually felt that the Pirates could benefit from having a six-man rotation with Rodriguez now in the fold, given how big of a factor fatigue can be.

"I think he has current options that are great if he wanted to go to a six-man rotation and give every guy an extra day [of rest]... it's a great problem to have," Williams added.

He also addressed rumors of a Brad Lincoln-for-Shane Victorino swap being discussed, saying it could have disastrous consequences for the Pirates' bullpen.

"It's very dangerous," Williams said. "If you've got a bullpen that works, you don't want to break that up."

He also suggested that Evan Meek, the former all-star reliever who the Pirates recently demoted to Indianapolis, could be a logical candidate for inclusion in a trade for Victorino, given that he has upside and that losing him wouldn't take anything away from the Pirates' bullpen as it stands now.
