BALDWIN (KDKA) — It’s a moment sports fans, and especially Pittsburghers, will never forget. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.
December 23, 1972. Three Rivers Stadium.
It’s the play by Franco Harris that changed everything for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I don’t remember anything except leaving the back field and running down the sidelines, in between all that, I don’t remember a thing,” says Harris.
Although he may not recall every detail of the Immaculate Reception, he knows the ending and knows how it was a turning point for the team.
“You think about – wow, that was an amazing year,” said Harris. “I mean it was incredible, and myself personally and for the team, and little did we know what was to come.”
The 40th anniversary of one of the greatest plays of all time is being celebrated with commemorative tee-shirts made by All-Pro Embroidery on Streets Run Road in Baldwin.
Harris got his first look at the shirts, hot off the presses, Thursday morning.
“It just brings back some great memories,” he said. “I have to admit, I really don’t remember this action right here, but I guess it’s on film, so that’s the way it was. It was a great moment, a great moment for us.”
The tee-shirts are available in sports stores all around the area. You can also buy online.
