Ross Twp. Man Accused Of Stealing $670K From Trust

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local man is charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Byron Chadderdon, 85, of Ross Township, turned himself in after relatives told police last July they checked on a trust for which Chadderdon was executor.

What they found shocked them. According to the criminal complaint, they found a trust balance of $80,000 when they believe it should have been around $700,000.

When they asked Chadderdon about it and asked if they were broke, they said Chadderdon replied, "Yeah, kinda, sorta."

Then investigators went through the records and found thousands of dollars taken from the trust for what they say were unauthorized payees, including Chadderdon's own accounts.

KDKA's Harold Hayes asked Chadderdon's lawyer, Rebecca Auld, if his client's age could be an issue.

"Well, his physical condition as you can see, he has some limitations, but his competency, I don't question his ability to understand and comprehend what's going on," she said.

"My client's adamant about his innocence and we are anxious to obtain the evidence they have and we feel that will come out," she continued.

Chadderdon faces a preliminary hearing next week. His bail is set at $100,000.

Until then, he is not to have any contact with that trust.
