PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — Will Allen has quite a helmet to fill during this short week, even beyond the long head of hair that normally lies beneath it.

The backup safety is in position to possibly start in lieu of re-injured All-Pro Troy Polamalu Thursday night when the Steelers (2-2) visit the Tennessee Titans (1-4). Despite his lack of reps this season, he insists experience wouldn’t be a problem.

“Since I’ve been [in the NFL], I’ve played both safety positions. Both make the calls, and Coach LeBeau makes sure we know what we have to do,” Allen told 93.7 The Fan’s Joe Starkey on the South Side Tuesday.

Allen went on to explain what it would mean to him to fill in for Polamalu, and what he expects from Tennessee quarterback Matt Hasselbeck:

Kickoff between the Steelers and Titans is set for 8:00 Thursday on Pittsburgh’s CW, with Pittsburgh Gameday, featuring Joe Starkey and Josh Miller, beginning at 6:00 on The Fan.
