2 Children Dead After Greenfield Fire

GREENFIELD (KDKA) --- Two children are dead following an aggressive house fire in Greenfield Friday afternoon.

The incident happened at the 900 block of Mirror Street.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m.

"We have two fatalities here. Unfortunately children are involved," says Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Mike Huss.

A witness who was working on a home nearby attempted to battle the fire with an extinguisher but it was too late.

"The mom was yelling histerically saying that her two babies were in there but nobody could go anywhere near it," says witness Frank Iozzo. "Minutes later firefighters geared up and went right inside and rescued two children. Paramedics then rushed them away."

The blaze is reported to be a two-alarm fire that somehow started on the second floor of the home.

There are also reports that a babysitter jumped out of a window.  The babysitter is listed in critical condition.

The Arson Squad was also called to scene.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
