SEWICKLEY HEIGHTS (KDKA) — Filming on another big budget movie began Monday in the Pittsburgh area.

Academy Award-nominated Bennett Miller of “Moneyball” and “Capote” fame is directing the all-star cast.

It was a true crime shocker in 1996.

Wrestler David Schultz, an Olympic gold medalist, was shot and killed. John DuPont, the multi-millionaire heir to the chemical family fortune, was accused in the crime. Schultz was living and training at DuPont’s sprawling Philadelphia estate, Foxcatcher Farm.

DuPont later died in prison in Somerset County at the age of 72.

A big-budget movie about the crime has begun filming here. And standing in for Philly’s Foxcatcher is the historic Wilpen Hall a mansion built in 1899, set back from Blackburn Road in Sewickley Heights.

“The police department is making every effort to ensure that the traffic flows smoothly,” said Officer Sal Arena, of the Sewickley Heights Police Department.

The casts includes: Steve Carell as DuPont, Mark Ruffalo as Schultz, Channing Tatum as his brother and actress Sienna Miller makes her return to Pittsburgh.

“I think it’s great when Sewickley Heights can end up on the big screen,’ said Gwen Lewis, a neighbor. “I know my kids are excited about that.”

It’s the kind of neighborhood where most of the houses have names.

Lewis, who lives nearby, says the movie company is trying to be good neighbors.

“They did leave a card in our mail box, and I know that my parents did contact them and gave permission to film from our property,” she said.

Blackburn Road, a busy corridor, especially during school hours for Quaker Valley buses, will be down to one lane with temporary closures Tuesday and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. when cameras are rolling.

The “Foxcatcher” movie production company will be filming in the Pittsburgh area past the Thanksgiving holiday.
