Man Hit By Vehicle, Killed In Pleasant Hills

PLEASANT HILLS (KDKA) - An elderly man was hit and killed by a truck while he was trying to cross Route 51 Monday night in Pleasant Hills.

Allegheny County homicide detectives know the name of the victim and the circumstances of his death, but what they don't know is if he has any relatives in the area.

According to police, the accident happened around 9 p.m. in front of the Southland Shopping Center. He was transported to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

"He was struck by a pickup truck that was traveling in the southbound lanes of travel," Det. Andrew Schurman said. "We do not believe he was in a crosswalk while he was trying to cross the street."

While many factors of this tragedy are clear, there is one that police are still working on.

"We are not releasing his identity. At the moment, we're trying to contact his family," Det. Schurman said.

So far, no charges have been filed and police do not believe alcohol or speed was a factor in the accident.
