PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — New Jersey has been walloped by Superstorm Sandy; many towns are under water and the power is out.

The Steelers are supposed to visit the New York Giants on Sunday, but is that going to happen? Both Coach Mike Tomlin and the NFL addressed the situation Tuesday.

“We anticipate this environment being a hostile one,” said Tomlin at his weekly press conference.

Things have been pretty hostile in Rutherford, N.J., but because of the weather.

But the plan is for the Steelers to face the Giants there on Sunday afternoon in spite of all the damage that area has seen in the past 24 hours.

The Steelers might not have a problem getting there for Sunday’s matchup, but what if you have plans to go to the game? That might be a little different story.

Right now, public transportation has been halted and it’s too soon to tell what the weekend might bring. But as for other travel plans?

“We haven’t heard anything from the hotels that they can’t accommodate our travelers; so we’re just telling our travelers they can sit back and relax and see how this plays out,” said Anbritt Stengele, of Sports Traveler.

Coach Tomlin says he’s focusing on getting ready for the match up, and he’s going to do just that until or unless the NFL tells him otherwise.

“Monday is a big preparation day for us, as is Tuesday and that’s kind of been my focus,” said Tomlin. “The National Football League office in New York is looking at options in that regard and we’ll just simply wait to hear what they have to say.”

And Steelers’ fans should take heart, some fans who traveled last Sunday’s to the Giants-Dallas Cowboys game haven’t been able to get back home yet.

“We still have fans that are down in Dallas right now that were there for the game,” said Stengele.
