PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Hurricane Sandy has forced the Steelers to change their travel plans to New Jersey to play the New York Giants this weekend. And the team won’t be the only ones with altered plans.

Fans will have some challenges as well.

There was a little hip-hop music during warm-ups and stretching at Steelers practice Friday. Players getting their groove on while getting ready to take on the Giants.

And no one was complaining about delayed travel plans.

The team will leave Pittsburgh the morning of the game, rather than the day before.

“You gotta be tough-minded,” said Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel. “Go up there, regardless of how you get there. When you get there, you gotta step in and play ball.”

The game is important, but the Steeler understand what happened to folks in New York and New Jersey.

“You don’t plan for such travesties to happen,” Steelers offensive tackle Max Starks said. “We’re definitely, you know, we keep our hearts and our prays with the people of New Jersey and New York.”

Meantime, there are fans headed to New Jersey from Pittsburgh for Sunday’s game.

“We’ve seen some of the flooding, things like that. We’ve seen some of the gas lines,” said Mike Grec, a Steelers fan. “My big concern is the transportation and the gridlock that exists up here in Manhattan.”

Fifty Steelers fans are headed to a New York hotel on a chartered bus, and eventually to MetLife Stadium for the game Sunday afternoon.

There is no rail service to the game and there are massive lines for gasoline.

However, Steelers fans are tough.

The group making the trip on the charter bus changed hotels and will leave for the game four hours early.

KDKA’s Marty Griffin: “Some people would say you’re crazy for doing this sort of thing.”

Grec: “Well, Steeler fans are crazy, so…”
