1 Injured After Tractor-Trailer Crashes Into Mobile Home

HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – One person was injured when a tractor-trailer crashed into a mobile home in Harmar Township Friday morning.

According to officials at the scene, the incident happened in the 700-block of Gulf Lab Road around 6:30 a.m.

The Harmar Township police chief said this had all the makings to be a violent, potentially deadly crash, when a truck rolled away this morning.

There was no warning for Lee Hollinger.

"I kind of heard the truck coming, but the next thing I knew, I was on the floor," Lee Hollinger said.

Police said a worker from Home City Ice in Harmar Township started the truck so it could warm up. However, as he walked away it slipped out of gear and took off down Gulf Lab Road.

"Trucks go by all the time, but I didn't expect to have a truck in the house," Hollinger said.

Police said with other drivers on the road at the time, the runaway truck had all the potential to cause a lot more damage and injuries. When it finally veered off the road, the truck slammed into cars parked in the driveway and crashed into Hollinger's home.

"The wall's smashed in, the furniture's broken, but that's about it," Hollinger said.

Police said the truck was impounded and there will be an inspection to see if there was a problem with the brakes.

Hollinger said when he was tossed across the room, he injured his ankle, but it is not serious. He is also worried about the stability and safety of the trailer.

The driver of the truck is not expected to be charged.
