Coonfare Out On Bond After Allegedly Killing New Castle Boy

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The man who allegedly hit two boys with his truck, killing one, in New Castle Sunday night is out of jail.

The New Castle News reported that Virgil Coonfare was released from Lawrence County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Sunday afternoon, Coonfare allegedly lost control of his yellow truck and ran into 9-year-old Ozzy Velez and 7-year-old Octavius Stone while playing in front of a house.

Stone was killed as a result of the crash.

Witnesses said Coonfare kept driving after hitting the boys. They said he appeared intoxicated, was unable to walk straight and only wearing one shoe.

Friends and family gathered Tuesday night to remember the slain little boy with a vigil.

"A great boy, taken away by someone with absolutely no regret," his father Kris Stone said. "Sorry doesn't cut it. He took my son away."

Coonfare was arrested following the accident and charged with vehicular homicide, DUI and aggravated assault.

The funeral for Stone is set for Friday night.
