PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — Newly-signed Pirates’ catcher Russell Martin joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sports Radio 93-7 The FAN fresh off of signing his contract.

Martin said he sees a really good group of young players and thinks he could help get them to the next level that they haven’t been able to reach.

Russell caught for Pirates’ starter A.J. Burnett during their time together with the New York Yankees, and said he looks forward to working with him again because the two share the same type of competitiveness when out on the field.

According to Martin, every team he has played on has been a contender, and he expects that trend to continue with the Pirates.
